"In ancient times they had no statistics so they had to fall back on lies." - Stephen Leacock

Classic Match

Talk about getting a run on. The Cats went down tonight for only the second time in their history after kicking 52+ points in the Premiership Quarter. They looked the goods after kicking 8.4 in the 3rd qtr to take a 13 pt lead, but the Pies would not be denied kicking 4.2 to 1.1 in the last to inflict the Cats first loss of the season.

The Cats have lost just one other game since 2006 after leading by 13+ pts and now drop down to 2nd on the table handing the Hawks top spot after their comfortable win against GWS.

North Unlucky

North supporters (and coach) will feel hard done by after a number of dubious decisions did not go there way in the final four minutes resulting in a great mark to big Nat. His kick after the siren sealed West Coasts 4th win of the season 12.18-90 to Norths 13.10-88.

It was a great finish to a tight match that was marred yet again by some very poor umpiring. Especially in the last few minutes. Shooey diving getting a free kick, Selwood lowering his shoulder which resulted in a free kick that saw big Nat take a great mark and kick the winning goal.

Whether Linday Thomas faces the MRP for what appeared to be a bit of dive will also ire the average footy follower. As will the Eagles players lowering their bodies to get a free. It's a shame though we can't get a bit of consistency with umpiring decisions regardless if it is in favour of forward or back.

A North kick into the forward line that was marked 30m out was called "touched" by the umpire that clearly wasn't. The play on call resulted in a behind for North that instead should have been set shot, will also be talked about.

The AFL need to have a close look at players staging for free kicks. Whether from a bump, a push or dropping the shoulder. It's a blight on the game.
