Page View Restrictions for Guests

Due to the site being the target of numerous automated crawlers (computers that try to download entire sites) that dramatically effects the performance of the site, we have had to implement a system that stops/limits this occurring. We did try an automated "crawler catcher" that caught and banned IPs automatically based on hits to the site, however, this proved ineffective. Hence, limiting guests to 40 odd hits in a 4-6 hour period we deemed as a feasible option.

So, now, if they now want to try to download the entire 200 million odd (dynamic) pages of the site, at about 160 pages a day, it will take them approx 3,500 years. :)

Thanks to all those people who have contributed to AlltheStats. A special thanks to Mero who has kindly provided the guernsey images used on the site. He has images of all the jumpers used by each team throughout their respective history in the VFL/AFL at his Mero's Jumper Madness page.

Background

The idea behind this site was to provide a bit of a resource and a few fun things to try out for AFL fans with the additional advantage of teaching myself a bit about web design. I got the site up and running in June 2003 just to see if I could do it, and I have been learning heaps ever since. I am certainly no guru in this area, so if you see something that isn't right or could be done better, I would value your thoughts.

Please be aware that we make no claim that the statistics provided on the site are 100% correct, although we do try to keep it as accurate as possible. If you do find any errors, please let us know and we will have them corrected.

AlltheStats.com

AlltheStats is purely an AFL fan site. It has no affiliation with the AFL, any of the clubs or any other site for that matter.

AlltheStats is an interactive site that allows visitors to enter certain criteria to effectively filter the information available to display only the info they are after.
